Building a Basis for Action: Enhancing Public Health Surveillance of Visual Impairment and Eye Health in the United States
As a subcontractor, EI assessed the state of vision health surveillance in the United States using a logic model. The overarching goal of the evaluation was to examine the ability of current surveillance systems to assess and monitor disparities in 1) visual impairment, 2) eye disease, 3) vision-related functioning, 4) social participation restriction, 5) access to vision and eye care, and 6) access to support and services for those who need vision rehabilitation. To facilitate development of a model that would propose a strategic path to enhancing vision surveillance in the US, EI was tasked to: convene an expert panel; conduct a thorough scientific review of surveillance instruments and strategies resulting in a formal report; conduct the expert panel meeting; and prepare a synthesis report of the expert panel meeting.
